About the Book
“Nostalgic, charming, and sometimes when you least expect it, poignant, Ackerman’s new book about childhood memories is perfectly coupled with his dreamlike, through the haze of memory, watercolors.” --Chris Gangemi, The East Hampton Star When it comes to recalling one’s early years, it is the emotionally charged moment that persists in memory. These are the scenes and experiences captured in Moments Out of Time: indelible, formative fragments from the childhoods of the author’s friends, family, colleagues, and even the occasional dinner companion. Faces, sounds, landscapes, smells, weather are all vividly recalled. More than a nostalgic look back, the enduring nature of these memories reveals much about the storytellers themselves: they are survivors, dreamers, rebels, caretakers, outsiders, competitors, and keen observers all. Illustrated with the author’s own whimsical watercolors.
