What Did You Dream About?

“Mama, Mama!” Thomas shouted. Still in his pajamas, he clomped and thumped all the way down the stairs. “Mama, I had a dream!” Mama was in the kitchen with his little sister, Maeve. Maeve was only three years old. She still sat in a highchair and slept in a crib. She wasn’t big like Thomas, who was six and slept in a big boy bed. Mama smiled when Thomas burst into the room. His blond hair stuck straight up in the air, and his eyes were wide with excitement. He could hardly catch his breath to speak! Nearby, Bandit the basset hound thumped his tail against the floor. Maeve stared wide-eyed from her chair, but she didn’t say anything because her mouth was full of fruit and crackers. “What did you dream about?” Mama asked as Thomas slid into his chair at the breakfast table. “I saw a huge monster!” Thomas replied, his chest puffing out. Mama gasped. “A huge monster! My goodness, how big was it?” “Bigger than all the houses! And the trees! And the mountains!” Thomas threw his arms out wide to show her. “Oh my!” said Mama. “Were you scared?” “Yes! But then we made friends. And I wasn’t scared anymore.”
