The asphalt street ran down the middle of the lush green landscape.
“I’m nervous to meet your family. I don’t think they will accept me.” Jack said, gripping the steering wheel with both hands.
“They’re going to love you.” Trinity placed her hand upon his roughened fingers.
Jack looked over and smiled at Trinity, giving a slight nod. “Maybe, but it’s going to take a while,” Jack sighed. “If I was your father, I’d be furious.”
“He’ll come around, a ghrá.” Trinity said, giving his hand a squeeze.
They parked in front of a red brick clad house, collected their suitcases from the boot, and went to the front porch. Trinity knocked on the white front door and waited. The front door opened to happy exclamations from Trinity as she greeted her family.
“Dia dhuit Mum, dad, Afton, Richelle! It’s good to see you!”
“Dia dhuit, Trinity. Tá fáilte romhat, Jack, come in.” Her mother stepped aside to let them enter.
Trinity sighed and looked up at Jack. “She just said hello and welcome.” She led Jack into the house.
“You can leave your cases right here.” Her mother gestured to the empty space next to the staircase leading up to the first floor.
“Go raibh maith agat, thank you, mum.” Trinity said with a smile.
“Tá fáilte romhat, Trin. Dia dhuit, Jack. I’m Galina. Conas tá tú?” Her mother reached out and shook Jack’s hand.
“Mum, he doesn’t speak Irish like us,” Trinity said. Her mother showed no reaction to the news, so she shrugged her shoulders and went back to translating. “She said you’re welcome, Trin. I’m Galina. How are you, Jack?”
“Hi, Galina. Go raibh maith agat for having us.” Jack said.
After embracing her mother, Trinity led Jack to the lounge, where they took a seat on a settee. Trinity’s father and sisters sat on chairs and another settee across from them. Trinity watched her mother sit next to her father.

Released from prison over three years ago, Jack Julian has somehow managed to rebuild his life with help from his adult daughter, Alice. He’s understandably angry about the years he has already lost and it’s Trinity’s job to assess his mental health. When they meet, she realizes Jack is still holding onto guilt over the past and resentful of her presence, but the chemistry they share is obvious. When they eventually fall in love, a frightening health diagnosis sends their relationship into chaos and leaves the happily-ever-after they both imagined hanging perilously in the balance.
In this poignant tale, the lives of a well-respected paralegal and wrongly imprisoned ex-con intertwine and transport them down a path that will either lead to happiness or shattered hearts.
About the Author
Macy Lewis has been blind since birth. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history and minored in writing and rhetoric studies at the University of Utah. Macy spends her time playing the drums, reading, and working on her next two book projects: Nina Nebula and the Space Adventure and the novel, Weathering the Storm.
