Bailey growls, “That brother of mine needs to be taught a lesson on how to treat his friends kindly. Hunter would not be a happy camper if we treated him poorly.” Caspar chimes in, “Maybe Hunter just needs a hug.” Tebow smiles inside and thinks, That is exactly why Caspar is my best friend. Meanwhile, back on the beach, Hunter is trying to impress Hershey and Shadow by digging deep into the sand like a hermit crab. Hershey rolls her eyes at Shadow and groans, “Boy, Hunter is full of himself today. Let’s go get some cool water and nap in the shade. He won’t even know we left.” When Hunter turns around, expecting the girls to be impressed, he realizes they’re gone. Hunter looks about to see if any other pups are there. He notices a flat river of foam between the two sandbars. As Hunter imagines how fun it would be to pretend he’s swimming on a road out to sea, he dives into the water and swims out toward the reef. Hunter ignores the warning signs posted along the shore. Hunter does not know that this is not a calm river; this is a dangerous rip current.

About the Book
It is a beautiful sunny day on the Gulf Coast of Florida—perfect for a Jet Ski excursion to Dog Bone Island with a pack of buddies who live in the seaside suburb of Barkington Bluffs. Tebow, a boxer, is outgoing, while his best friend Caspar, a golden retriever, is bashful. They know other pups in the neighborhood as well: Hershey, a spunky Yorkie; Shadow, a motherly Australian shepherd; Sage, a standard poodle; Bailey, a yellow lab; and Hunter, a red golden retriever, who tends to be surly. Early in the morning, Tebow loads up his Jet Ski with Frisbees, tennis balls, and chew treats, and cruises out to Dog Bone Island to meet up with his friends for Sunday Funday. Everyone is having a great time—until Hunter ignores the sign that warns of a rip current and begins to be swept out to sea! Can he make it safely back to shore? In this children’s story, when a group of canine friends enjoys a day of fun, one of them finds himself in deep trouble on the water.

Tracey Sullivan holds a master’s degree in elementary education and accounting from the University of South Florida and University of Florida and has been a math profession at St. Petersburg College. She and her husband, Bob, have two grown children, Scott and Jessica, and live with Tebow and Caspar in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
