Everyone at the station called friends and family to come to the firehouse for the Christmas Eve service. They explained what they were trying to do, and the more, the louder they could be.
A young journalist heard about the story and was taking pictures of the preparations for the Christmas Eve service. He typed up his story so it could hit the AP wire before the final Christmas edition. Jimmy had never seen a town come together like this and want to reach out to firefighters up on a mountain. Everyone needed to hear about this. This was indeed a Christmas story.
At 10:00 p.m., they started to play Christmas music over the speakers for everyone to hear. Chairs were set up for those who could not stand the entire service, and there were blankets for those who were cold.
Father Thomas stood in front of his congregation at 10:30. The gentlemen at the control boards turned up the speakers as loud as they could.
“Merry Christmas, everyone. We are here tonight, at this firehouse, because our family and friends are on that mountain fighting to save homes up there as well as the forest. A church is anywhere

About the Author
Samantha Sheridan grew up on a farm in Colorado, where she fell in love with the outdoors and the Rocky Mountains. At the age of six, her family moved to her grandparents’ farm in West Central Ohio, but Samantha still longed for the mountains. As a beautiful substitute, her family regularly visited the Smoky Mountains.
